Sarà la solita visita medica ? Con l’iniziativa “health check” la Commissione riporta la Politica Agricola Comune sull’agenda dell’Europa. Il presente articolo vuole contestualizzare l’health check e illustra le principali ragioni che hanno portato a questa riforma. Un secondo articolo analizzerà la proposta della Commissione più nello specifico.

With the Commission’s “health check” the Common Agricultural Policy is back on Europe’s policy agenda and according to some critics, the patient needs nothing less than a number of life-saving operations. In two articles the Euros take a closer look at the Commission’s proposed health check from 20 May 2008. This, the first of two articles, contextualizes the health check and draws up the main reasons for why a reform is needed. The second article will take an in-depth look at the actual Commission proposal.
